4th of July Festivities...or something like 'em...

So, tonight we decided to go to Riverside Park in Murphysboro and watch the fireworks. Let's just say the whole night was a major FAILURE!! First, we wanted to get on the road by 7:30...we didn't leave until 8:00. Awesome. Next we decided to stop at KFC in Murphyboro to pick up a chicken bucket and sides for everyone (we used to do this every year so it's kind of like a tradition). Well, we get to KFC and they are out of chicken so we have to wait 20 minutes for it to get done. Then, after we've already paid the girl tells us that they don't have any more green beans...or corn. So now we are stuck with mashed potatoes and gravy and 2 sides of coleslaw...sound appetizing yet? Then we get three sodas, two diets and a regular...well, of course they were out of diet. The girl says they can't "make" anymore diet...I'm sorry, do you realize that you don't "make" diet coke...its syrupe you idiot! So, we wait for 20 minutes and get absolutely nothing we wanted...

We (me and dad) finally meet up with Patty, Titi, Avery and Titi's little brothers at Riverside...it's 8:45. We get settled, I make the plates for dinner and the fireworks start... Well, I guess they decided to move where they light the fireworks off at because we couldn't see 75% of them...they were behind huge trees! It gets started and Avery absolutely hated it! He couldn't hold onto Patty's neck any harder than he was. Poor little guy hated every second of them! So Patty took Avery home (luckily she thought this might happen so we took 3 cars just in case). Then, the fireworks (that we barely saw) get done and we go to the car...we sit there for 45 minutes without moving an inch! AND, to make it even better, dad's AC isn't working so I was sweating my boobs off while we were sitting there.

Now I'm home. Phew! Next year, if we try to do this again, we will sit where we can see the fireworks, hopefully Avery will love them and we will NOT go to KFC!. Not only was the chicken AWFUL, but it's too expensive. We might as well go to subway where we know it will be good and it's easy!

Even though the whole night turned out to be terrible, I still remember what today is all about. This day reminds me how lucky I am to live in the U.S.A! I hope you all had a great 4th of July!!

  1. Ha! I was bummed that I was out of town and had to miss the traditional family festivities, but I guess missing them wasn't such a bad thing after all. Next year will be better - I PROMISE!!
